After going 1-3 against Power Five conferences through the first six weeks of the season, Texas basketball has one last chance at a statement nonconference win Friday when it visits No. 5 Connecticut.
Texas (7-3) split games against North Carolina State and Arizona State at the Maui Classic last month. But defensive lapses and propensity to foul cost the Longhorns in lopsided losses to Duke and Virginia, who are ranked No. 3 and No. 24, respectively, in the latest AP poll.
First-year coach Sean Miller has harped on cleaning up those issues on the defensive end, especially against a national contender such as No. 5 UConn (9-1). Can the Longhorns spring an upset with the start of SEC play just a few weeks away?
