There are very few teams in the NBA that offer Cleveland a better chance of getting back to winning ways than Washington as the two teams reunite on Friday. The Cavaliers’ current streak of 13 consecutive wins over the Wizards dates back to February 2022, when Cleveland trailed 118-110 in their all-time head-to-head.
Kenny Atkinson’s side now leads the Eastern Conference rivalry with 122 wins to Washington’s 118, successfully turning the momentum in their favor over the last few years. And the Cavs could do with the boost as they return to action, having lost to Golden State in their most recent outing almost one week ago.
The Wizards – who sit dead last in the conference – were in even more dire need of a break after losing three in a row, albeit becoming accustomed to such treatment after losing all but one of their 13 games in November. Brian Keefe has never been part of a Washington team that’s managed to beat Cleveland, neither as head coach nor as assistant, a drought he’d love to end this weekend.
Jarrett Allen could be back for Cleveland on Friday after he returned to practice this week following a finger injury, while a calf injury will continue to keep Larry Nance Jr out. Meanwhile, a fractured thumb looks likely to keep Washington forward Corey Kispert out of action, and Bilal Coulibaly looks set to remain sidelined with an oblique injury.
