UConn held off defending national champion and 18th-ranked Florida down the stretch on Tuesday night for a 77-73 victory in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden. The Huskies shot 59.3% in the first half while opening up a seven-point lead at the break. With 9.4 seconds left and leading by three, UConn forced a five-second violation before Solo Ball hit two free throws to put the game away. Ball finished with 19 points, Alex Karaban added 13, and Tarris Reed Jr. tossed in 12 for the Huskies. Malachi Smith came off the bench for five points and nine assists.

Texas bounced back from a lopsided homecourt loss in the ACC/SEC Challenge to hammer visiting Southern 95-69 on Monday night. Matas Vokietaitis went for 28 points, and Jordan Pope added 18 while reserve Simeon Wilcher knocked down 14 points. Dailyn Swain finished with 10 points and five assists, as well. The Longhorns shot 56.9% overall and were 29-of-32 (90.6%) from the foul line in the blowout.

UConn has beaten Texas the last three times they’ve played, including a 76-65 road win on Dec. 8, 2024. Ball averages 15.0 points for the Huskies, with Reed getting 14.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game and Silas Demary Jr. posting 10.0 points and 5.1 assists a night. Vokietaitis averages 15.9 points for the Longhorns, while Swain nets 15.7 points per game and Lassina Traore grabs 7.0 rebounds per outing.
