Pretty much all of the Sacramento Kings’ current problems can be traced to current co-owner Vivek Ranadive. And things won’t get better until he sells the team. The right owner is LeBron James, and he could take over when he finally retires from the court sometime in the next decade or two.

Since becoming co-owner of the Kings in 2013, Ranadive has been notorious around the league for how involved he is in the operations of his franchise. That includes every aspect of the team, who is on the roster, and how it has been developed over the past several seasons.

If the Kings are considered a failed franchise, the blame starts with him. It seems like he might finally be cluing into that, as Scott Perry has claimed Ranadive is fully behind his long-term rebuild strategy. It’s safe to say that fans are not as convinced, but only time will tell at this point.

The Kings have tried following new directions before, but Ranadive is notorious for not following through. In reality, the Kings need a new owner to step up and take control of the situation, preferably someone who knows business but also actually gets basketball. And he should already be a King.

Calling King James to Sacramento, please and thank you

While there’s some debate over who basketball’s GOAT is, there’s no doubt that LeBron James is one of the greatest players to ever touch a court. He has his haters, but the numbers and his success just don’t lie. Frankly, neither does his longevity. He’s in season 23 and still playing at an elite level.

Eventually, even LeBron has to retire, and what he does after that will be interesting. There has long been speculation that he wants to become an NBA owner. That team should be the Kings. They need an owner like James who gets business and knows what it takes to win in this league.

LeBron has the contacts and connections to put together a legitimate offer to the current ownership. He knows every angle of the league and how to build a true championship team. He’ll assemble a coaching staff and front office that will turn Sacramento into real contenders.

At this point in his long playing career, he has made history more times than anyone could have expected or any other player ever will. King James could make history one more time by being the first owner to bring an NBA Championship to Sacramento.
