The Cal State Northridge Matadors rolled past the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens 88-66 on Saturday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, Delaware.

With the win, Cal State Northridge improved to 6-5 on the season and extended its win streak to two games. The team has won three of four contests in December.

This also marked the Matadors’ first road game of the month.

Delaware fell to 3-7 overall and has dropped three of its four December games.

The Matadors scored at least 40 points in each half, putting up 48 in the first and 40 in the second. The Blue Hens managed 28 before halftime and added 38 after the break.

Larry Hughes II led the Matadors with 23 points, shooting 7-of-17 from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 from the foul line.

He was one of four Cal State Northridge starters to reach double figures. Joshua O’Garro scored 18, while Davius Loury and Mahmoud Fofana each added 12.

Hughes has now posted back-to-back 20-point games and has scored at least 20 in three of four December contests. He previously recorded 25 points against Fresno State and 27 against CSU Bakersfield.

The Matadors’ bench contributed 15 points, led by James Evans Jr. with seven.

Christian Bliss paced the Blue Hens with 21 points, going 5-of-12 from the field and 6-of-7 at the line.

It was Bliss’ first 20-point performance of the month. His previous December high was 16 points against the Delaware State Hornets on Dec. 6.

The 21 points also set a new season-high, topping his previous mark of 18 against the BYU Cougars on Nov. 11.

Bliss was one of two Delaware starters in double figures, joined by Justyn Fernandez with 17.

The Blue Hens’ bench totaled 11 points, led by Alex Kazanecki with five.
