When the Boston Celtics acquired Anfernee Simons as part of the deal that sent Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers, the general consensus was that he would be re-routed ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline. Simons, 26, is in the final year of his current $100 million contract and could be a valuable trade chip for Brad Stevens.
When looking at Boston’s current roster, it’s clear the Celtics need another big man, either to replace Neemias Queta as the starter or to strengthen the second unit. After all, both Luka Garza and Xavier Tillman have fallen out of the rotation, with Mazzulla preferring a small-ball rotation with the second unit.

During a recent episode of NESN’s “Hold My Banner,” Adam Kaufman and Ountae Campbell discussed whether the Celtics should try to leverage Simons in a potential trade for Ivica Zubac of the Los Angeles Clippers. The Western Conference team is struggling this season and currently sits 14th in the Western Conference. As such, the Clippers front office may be tempted to make some changes, with Zubac being one of the team’s best trade assets.
