The Washington men’s basketball program re-entered the hunt this past weekend for elite Illinois point guard Davion Thompson, a Top 50 prospect in the 2027 recruiting class.
Listed at 6-foot-2, Thompson is ranked as a five-star recruit and the No. 32 overall recruit according to 247Sports, and was first offered by former UW coach Mike Hopkins back in September 2023 before receiving another chance to play for the school from second-year coach Danny Sprinkle.
Like 2028 offer Lleyton Leonard, Thompson is the cousins of standout guard Wesley Yates, who transferred back to Washington after spending the 2024 season at USC, and UW special assistant Quincy Pondexter.
Since his first offer from UW over 18 months ago, half a dozen programs have added their name to his list of schools, and several more are expected to come in over the next two years before Thompson makes his college decision.
The Huskies have extended offers to a trio of point guards in the 2027 cycle — including Thompson — along with Ohio shooting guard Isaiah Mack-Russell.
Thompson possesses strong vision as a distributor with the ability to drive and create his own scoring opportunity if need be, validating his consensus top ten rank at his position by 247Sports.
