ORLANDO, Fla. — Magic guard Jalen Suggs suffered a left hip contusion Saturday in Orlando’s 132-120 loss to the New York Knicks at the NBA Cup semifinals in Las Vegas, the team announced Monday.

An MRI conducted Monday confirmed that Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs suffered a left hip contusion. He suffered the injury vs. New York Saturday afternoon.

The diagnosis came after a magnetic resonance imaging Monday. No timetable was announced for his return. The Magic said his response to treatment will determine when he can get back on the court.

Suggs, who scored 25 points in Saturday’s first quarter before getting injured, fell hard to the floor and on his left hip after Knicks forward OG Anunoby stole the ball from Suggs as he was driving to the basket in the third quarter. He continued to try to play but struggled to get up and down the court after that and had to leave the game in that quarter and did not return. Suggs, who plays a physical defensive and offensive style of basketball, has missed at least 20 games because of injuries in three of his first four seasons in the NBA and only played 35 games last season after various injuries and finally needing surgery to repair a trochlea injury to his left knee.

The injury was the third to a Magic core player about seven weeks into the season, all three coming in matchups against the Knicks.

Forward Paolo Banchero sustained a strained groin on Nov. 12 after playing 12 minutes in a 124-107 victory against New York and missed 10 games. Forward Franz Wagner has a high left ankle sprain after Knicks center Ariel Hukporti fouled him hard at the basket seven minutes into the game Dec. 7 and Wagner fell awkwardly to the floor. That injury looked extremely serious at the time. Wagner still is out, and the team also did not announce a timetable for his return. Wagner and Suggs are two of Orlando’s top four scorers.

The Magic also are playing without center Moe Wagner, who has been out since tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on Dec. 21, 2024 in a game against the Miami Heat and undergoing season-ending surgery.

Orlando does not play again until Thursday, when it begins a four-game road trip in Denver against the Nuggets. After that game, they will play the Utah Jazz, Golden State Warriors and Portland Trail Blazers.

Heading into Monday night’s games, Orlando holds the No. 4 spot in the Eastern Conference standings with a 15-11 record, but teams ranked three through nine are all within a game of each other in the standings.

Banchero, Franz Wagner and Suggs, Orlando’s top three players last season, saw action together for less than 100 total minutes last season because of Suggs’ injury and oblique tears to both Banchero and Franz Wagner.

In the offseason, the Magic traded guards Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Cole Anthony, plus four future draft picks and a pick swap to the Memphis Grizzlies to improve their roster and build a team they hope can help them take the next step in the NBA playoffs. The Magic made playoffs in 2025 and 2024 but did not get out of the first round.
