Saturday was a reminder for Michigan State basketball that there are no easy road games in the Big Ten. After surviving an upset scare by Penn State, voters seem to have taken that fact into account, as the Spartans didn’t move in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.
For the second week in a row, MSU is ranked at No. 9 in the country by the coaches, with only Michigan and Purdue ahead of them in terms of Big Ten teams. In my opinion, Michigan State probably has a legitimate gripe with Purdue being ranked ahead of them, as the Boilermakers and Spartans both have one loss, but Purdue’s loss came from an absolute blowout by No. 4 Iowa State, while the Spartans’ loss was a close one to No. 3 Duke.

Elsewhere in the Big Ten, the red hot Nebraska Cornhuskers came in at No. 15. Illinois, who just lost to Nebraska, is at No. 18, and Iowa is at No. 25. Michigan State fans will also be interested to note that Arkansas, who MSU beat, is back up to No. 14 in the polls.
