NBA season giving thanks

For Thanksgiving, we talked about all the things we’re thankful for this NBA season.

The Atlanta Hawks will be without Kristaps Porzingis, who is expected to be out for at least the next two weeks, according to the team.

The Hawks center has been dealing with an illness and is expected to undergo further evaluations. Porzingis has missed seven of the past nine games.

The Hawks (14-12) are hosting the Philadelphia 76ers (14-10) Sunday, Dec. 14 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta in a battle of Eastern Conference playoff hopefuls.

Kristaps Porzingis injury update

The Hawks said Porzingis “will continue this period of limited basketball activities and evaluation for two weeks, after which time his status will be updated.”

The Latvian star was previously diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome last season while playing with the Boston Celtics. He missed significant time with Boston as a result of the POTS.

The condition “causes a number of symptoms when you transition from lying down to standing up, such as a fast heart rate, dizziness and fatigue,” according to the Cleveland Clinic.

But, Porzingis mentioned earlier this month that the illness he’s dealt with since early December is not related to POTS.

Who is Kristaps Porzingis’ backup on Hawks’ depth chart?

Onyeka Okongwu serves as the primary backup with KP out. Okongwu is averaging 16 points, 7.2 rebounds and three assists per game.

Kristaps Porzingis stats

Porzingis has averaged 19.2 points, 5.6rebounds and 3.1 assists in 13 games played.
