There won’t be a new banner hanging in Madison Square Garden’s rafters on Friday night, but you can expect there will be some way of honoring the New York Knicks as they return home.
The Knicks resumed their regular season Thursday night on the road as they took on the Indiana Pacers.
Now they’re back in New York for the first time since winning the 2025 NBA Cup championship after defeating the San Antonio Spurs, 124-113, on Tuesday night in Las Vegas.
The victory marks the Knicks’ first league trophy since winning the 1973 NBA championship.
Their path to the NBA Cup title included a road victory at Toronto and a victory over the Orlando Magic in the semifinals at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, setting up their championship meeting with Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs.
While the Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks hung banners for their NBA Cup titles, the Knicks decided not to do the same at the World’s Most Famous Arena.
The Knicks host the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night as they start thinking about accomplishing bigger and better things this season.
