Zach Thompson details his best player prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Friday night’s game between the Thunder and Timberwolves.
Friday night’s five-game NBA schedule is anchored by an exciting double-header on Amazon Prime. Following an Eastern Conference matchup between the 76ers and Knicks, we’ll head over to the West for a meeting between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves. Both teams are stocked with star power and significant storylines, so there are some fun player prop bets to consider on DraftKings Sportsbook.
The Thunder are 7.5-point road favorites with the game total set at 232.5 points. The teams met three weeks ago on Nov. 26 in Oklahoma City, where the Thunder won 113-105. Can they keep the momentum rolling, or will the Timberwolves claw their way to an upset?
The Thunder bounced back from their NBA Cup semifinal loss and beat the Clippers on Thursday, improving to 25-2 on the season. The Timberwolves are 17-10, good enough for sixth in the West, with a 9-5 record at home. They lost their most recent game on Wednesday, when the Grizzlies rolled into the Target Center and snagged a 116-110 victory.
Who will step up in this potential Western Conference playoff preview? Let’s dive in and check out my top player prop bets for Friday night.
Thunder vs. Timberwolves Best Prop Bets on DraftKings Sportsbook
Naz Reid Over 18.5 Points + Rebounds (-117)
The biggest injury news to watch in this game is the status of Anthony Edwards (foot), who has missed the last three games with foot soreness. Edwards is a huge part of the Wolves’ offense, and his return would definitely shake up the usage.
Rather than dive into the backcourt, where Edwards will make a huge impact, I’m taking Naz Reid’s over from the front court, since he has been rolling with or without Edwards on the floor.
Reid started the season on the slow side but has topped this points and rebound total in seven of his last eight games — and in 12 of his last 16. In those 16 games, he’s averaging 16.1 points and 6.9 rebounds for 23 combined points and rebounds per game.
He did fall below the prop line with 12 points and two rebounds in 24 minutes in the first meeting with the Thunder, but he’s been more productive lately and can often be a key contributor from the second unit — whether the game stays close or gets lopsided.
Reid has been very aggressive coming off the bench lately, with at least 11 field goal attempts in eight straight games. If he stays aggressive and continues to produce, he should clear this prop line again on Friday.
Luguentz Dort Under 10.5 Points + Rebounds (-120)
While I like Reid to surpass his points and rebounds prop, I’m backing Dort to stay under his total of 11 on the other side of the ball.
With everyone mostly back for the Thunder, Dort’s role in the offense has been extremely limited. On the season, he’s averaging 7.5 points and 3.7 rebounds (11.2 combined points and rebounds), but he has fallen below this prop line in two straight games and six of his last eight.
He went off for zero points and one rebound Thursday, going 0-for-6 from the field and 0-for-5 from distance. He did miss some time with an adductor strain earlier this month, which could still be impacting his play.
While the line is pretty low, the Timberwolves are usually very good at defending opposing wings. Plus, he only accumulated six combined points and rebounds in their first meeting, despite playing 32 minutes.
Chet Holmgren Over 16.5 points (-118)
Even with the rest of the team healthy, Holmgren continues to serve as a focal point of Oklahoma City’s offense. The 23-year-old from Gonzaga has scored at least 17 points in seven of his last eight games and 12 of his last 17.
Holmgren had only 12 points in his first matchup against Minnesota, but he should be able to be more effective in the rematch. Isaiah Hartenstein (rest) didn’t play in the first game of the back-to-back, but he should be back on Friday. He’s only played one game alongside Holmgren since the end of November, which resulted in Holmgren recording 17 points against the Spurs.
The number may be adjusted down a bit to accommodate Hartenstein’s presence, but Chet has regularly gone over this number with or without Hartenstein. In a marquee matchup against Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle, Holmgren and Hartenstein will look to secure the Thunder yet another statement win this Friday.
Bonus Parlay Pick: Jaden McDaniels Under 1.5 3PM (-146)
If you’re shopping for a fourth leg for your Same Game Parlay (SGP) or SGPx, you can add in this McDaniels prop to boost your four legs to +900, as you can see below.
McDaniels has definitely flashed the potential to go off, but has been struggling with his shot recently. Meanwhile, the Thunder are excellent at defending the perimeter. McDaniels has not made more than one three-pointer in four straight games, including each game without Edwards. The star’s potential return could result in even fewer opportunities for McDaniels, so it feels like a solid pick to expect him to fall below this 3PM total Friday night.
