NEW YORK — The Philadelphia 76ers got back at it on Friday when they paid a visit to the New York Knicks after four days off. The Sixers had another extended period of rest with the NBA Cup continuing in Las Vegas–which the Knicks ended up winning–and it offered up an opportunity for Philadelphia to steal one on the road with a big rest advantage.

Tyrese Maxey also returned after a 2-game absence with an illness and put up 30 points and eight assists as the Sixers knocked off the Knicks 116-107 on the road. Philadelphia played some terrific defense as it held New York to 8-for-32 shooting from beyond the arc leading to a big win.

VJ Edgecombe had 23 points and four assists, Andre Drummond had 14 points and 13 rebounds, Dominick Barlow had 11 points and four rebounds, Jared McCain had 12 points, and Paul George added seven points.

Here are the player grades following the win:

Tyrese Maxey: A

After 12 days off, and missing two games due to an illness, Maxey looked lively in this contest. He was exploding into 3-pointers off the dribble, he was getting into the paint for easy floaters, and he made sure the Sixers got into a rhythm quickly. He was directing things with the basketball in his hands and making sure guys move and are in the right spots. All things considered, Maxey had a nice return and made sure the Sixers were in a position to win the game.

VJ Edgecombe: A

The rookie did a little bit of everything in this one as he had some nice baskets in the paint and did a good job of helping on the glass and making plays defensively. With that being said, he will probably see Knicks big man Mitchell Robinson in his nightmares as Robinson blocked him both on a drive and on a 3-point attempt. He got going in the second half as he put his head down and got to the basket at will. He shook off a slow start and played a professional half in a hostile environment and it was an impressive showing.

Paul George: C-plus

It was a slow start for George on offense as he was unable to get much of anything going on that end of the floor, but he was terrific defensively. He was really moving his feet on that end of the floor and giving a real effort to bother the Knicks on the perimeter. He got a couple shots to fall late in the second quarter finally as he was able to give the Sixers a boost in that department. Overall, though, it was a struggle on the offensive end for George as he was unable to give the Sixers the lift he has recently provided to this group.

Dominick Barlow: B-plus

It was a strong start for Barlow as he got some easy buckets by moving without the basketball and taking advantage of some Knicks defenders falling asleep. He also set the tone for this group on the glass and came up with some big stops defensively. He played some minutes at the 5 in this one and had some good moments on defense. Overall, Barlow continued his strong play in this one and did a lot of the little things to help the Sixers and contribute in a positive way. He is an important piece to this group.

Andre Drummond: A

The first bucket for Drummond in this one was him walking into a wing triple in transition before then knocking down a couple of more 3-pointers from the corner giving the Sixers a boost in that area of the game. Other than that, he had a tough time finishing at the basket, but he did grab his usual assortment of rebounds and he made some tough defensive plays as he made the Knicks think twice about challenging him at the basket.

Jared McCain: B-plus

McCain was able to make things happen off the bench as he got to the basket off the dribble and made the Knicks collapse on him in the paint. McCain was able to get some shots to fall and he converted on an And-1 opportunity. He knocked down some big shots in the fourth quarter to give the Sixers the lead after the Knicks had some momentum.

Justin Edwards: B-plus

Getting a look late in the second quarter, Edwards knocked down two triples off the bench. That’s a good sign for the young man after a quick stint in the G League to get him some minutes and get him right. He did have trouble defending Jalen Brunson in this one, but he had an overall nice night.

Quentin Grimes: C

The initial stint for Grimes was a mixed bag. He knocked down a tough 3-pointer and was able to get into the paint, but there were some tough moments defensively and he had a head-scratching turnover as well. He had a tough second half in this one, though, as he wasn’t able to make much of an impact.

Adem Bona: D-minus

The second-year big man picked up three fouls in three minutes in his initial stint as he was ineffective on both ends of the floor. It wasn’t much better in the second half as he had a couple of tough moments including a defensive 3-second call and wasn’t in the right spots at times.

Jabari Walker: C-minus

The initial stint for Walker was non-descript as he wasn’t able to produce much in the first half of this one. In the second half, he made some free throws.
