NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas has not played for the Nets since Nov. 5 as he sustained a left hamstring strain in a 112-103 win at the Indiana Pacers. On Dec. 6, Brooklyn announced that Thomas had begun on-court workouts and that the team would reevaluate him in two weeks from that time and it looks like the Nets have another update to give.
“CT is doing great. He had his 5-on-5 yesterday. [He] looked really good. He’s going to continue to do that until we feel he’s ready to go. [He’s a] big part of the non-contact with the rest of the team,” Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez said prior to Sunday’s game against the Toronto Raptors. The good news is that Thomas is slowly ramping himself up to be back on the court, but it sounds like his return may still be some time away.

“Like I said, [he] played a 5-on-5, and it’s just a matter of when. We’re not targeting a specific date, but we want to see how he feels, and then go to the next session, see how he feels, and then keep building from there,” Fernandez continued. “So, obviously, the No. 1 priority is him and his body. And whenever he’s ready to help the team, he will.”
Thomas, 24, is averaging 21.4 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 40.2% from the field and 35.6% from three-point land in eight games played so far this season. Time will tell when Thomas will be back in the lineup for the Nets, but it seems like the injuries are piling up with rookie forward Drake Powell out of the rotation for the time being with his right ankle sprain.
“[We’re] not concerned. He’ll be back soon,” Fernandez said on Powell during his pregame media press conference when asked how long Powell will be out. Powell suffered his ankle sprain in Thursday’s 106-95 loss to the Miami Heat and it seemed like his ankle issue would cost him at least one game given that he was ruled out prior to the end of the first quarter.
