President Trump welcomes Florida Gator basketball champions to the White House

  • May 22, 2025

WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – President Donald Trump welcomed the Florida Gators men’s basketball team to the White House on Wednesday to celebrate their 2025 NCAA championship win last month.

“The 2025 University of Florida basketball team was one for the history books,” said the president. “And I saw a few of those games, and they were tough games against great teams. You brought home the third national title in program history and made Florida the only Division one program ever to win three national titles in both basketball and football. That’s not bad.”

The team defeated the Houston Cougars 65-63 in the championship game on April 7.

During a celebratory afternoon event for the team in the White House East Room, President Trump praised the team, recounted much of the season and also applauded head coach Todd Golden.

“Congratulations, also, to a really great young head coach, Todd Golden, on the entire job he did the season,” said President Trump. “The inspiration that he gave these players. He’s unbelievable. As a coach I heard a lot of great things about him. Oh would I like to be his agent.”

Coach Golden also spoke and presented the president with an autographed basketball and a jersey that had “Trump” and the number 47 written on it.

“I’m incredibly proud of my players and our staff in the work that we’ve done over the last year. And our goal is to do everything we can to put ourselves in a position to be here again next year,” said Coach Golden.
