LAWRENCE, Kan. (KSNW) — One of Kansas basketball’s most decorated point guards is coming home. Jacque Vaughn, whose No. 11 jersey hangs in Allen Fieldhouse, is joining the Univeristy of Kansas men’s basketball coaching staff as an assistant, the school’s athletic department announced Wednesday.
Vaughn, a former All-American and two-time Academic All-American of the Year, brings over 15 years of NBA coaching experience, including head coaching roles with the Orlando Magic and Brooklyn Nets, to Lawrence. He is the first former NBA head coach on the Kansas coaching staff.

Vaughn was selected 27th overall in the 1997 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz and enjoyed a 12-year career, winning an NBA Championship with the Spurs in 2007. He later coached the Magic from 2012 to 2015 and took the Nets to the playoffs twice, most recently in 2023.
Vaughn fills the spot left by longtime assistant Norm Roberts, who announced his retirement earlier this month.
