The Brooklyn Nets are still in the early stages of their rebuild and as a result, general manager Sean Marks and the front office remain open to plenty of possibilities. Brooklyn has been mainly focused on the development of their young players, including their five rookies from the 2025 NBA Draft, but it seems like the Nets are willing to listen to trade pitches.
NBA insider Jake Fischer wrote in his latest article for The Stein Line that the Nets are willing to listen to trade offers for the majority of their veterans, including forward Michael Porter Jr. This report makes sense given that Brooklyn has to find a way to open up playing time for their younger players, especially with veterans like Porter, guard Terance Mann, and center Nic Claxton being more than worthy of being in the starting lineup for head coach Jordi Fernandez.
Fischer goes on to say in his piece that the Nets are “remaining eager, league sources say, to play facilitator in multi-team trade constructs that set them up to turn unused salary cap space from the summer into draft capital.” As has been the case since this past offseason, Brooklyn has been trying to get draft picks and/or young players by using their league-leading cap space to help teams facilitate trades that they need to improve their rosters.
For example, Brooklyn became involved in the trade that sent forward Kristaps Porzingis from the Boston Celtics to the Atlanta Hawks by acquiring Mann from the Hawks, netting them Atlanta’s pick in the 2025 Draft that became forward Drake Powell. Veterans on the Nets’ roster drawing attention is nothing new with NBA insider Chris Haynes recently reporting that the Golden State Warriors had trade interest in athletic centers, naming Brooklyn’s Claxton as one of the options.
Porter is having the best season of his career as he’s averaging 25.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 49.3% from the field and 40.0% from three-point range in 23 appearances. As this season progresses, it will be interesting to see which teams will have the desire to trade for Porter and what Brooklyn could receive for being willing to trade a player that could make his first All-Star appearance.
