The Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks are set to face off in a marquee Christmas Day matchup at Chase Center on Thursday, with both teams looking to build on recent momentum and improve their standing in the Western Conference.
After three-straight losses, the Warriors have recorded a pair of wins which included a dominant 23-point victory over the Orlando Magic on Monday, while the Mavericks have won seven of their past 11 games and took down the title-contending Denver Nuggets on Tuesday.
Warriors set for center rotation boost against Mavericks
Golden State have been nearing a return to full health over recent games, and could finally have a full rotation available in a major Christmas Day gift. The same can’t be said for Dallas who, by comparison, have a lengthy injury report with a couple of important players remaining out of the lineup.
Warriors Injury Report
Al Horford (probable), Seth Curry & LJ Cryer (out)
Veteran center Al Horford has missed 10 of the past 11 games due to sciatic irritation, with the sole appearance coming in Philadelphia where the 39-year-old had three points, six rebounds and four assists on 1-of-8 shooting from the floor.
Horford has been underwhelming since his notable acquisition from the Boston Celtics in free agency, but there’s still time for the 5x All-Star to build some rhythm and make the impact the franchise and fans have long envisioned. Assuming he does return, it will be interesting to see how Horford’s minutes impact Quinten Post and Trayce Jackson-Davis, both of who have enjoyed more opportunity without their veteran teammate.
Seth Curry remains out with a glute injury, while two-way contracted guard LJ Cryer has a back strain. Fellow two-way contracted player, Malevy Leons, is not on the report and could be in line for his debut with Golden State if it’s a blowout for either team.
Mavericks Injury Report
Klay Thompson, Max Christie, Dwight Powell, Brandon Williams (probable), P.J. Washington, Moussa Cisse (questionable), Miles Kelly (doubtful), Kyrie Irving, Dereck Lively II and Dante Exum (out)
There will be increased emotion and focus whenever Klay Thompson returns to Chase Center, with the 4x NBA champion expected to play despite missing Tuesday’s win over the Nuggets. Max Christie and Dwight Powell also missed that game but are probable to return, while starting forward P.J. Washington is questionable due to foot soreness.
The Mavericks are still without Kyrie Irving as he recovers from a torn ACL, but there is renewed optimism around the franchise given his nearing return, and the form of Cooper Flagg and Anthony Davis amid this recent stretch of good form.
Dallas are 12-19 on the season and 11th in the West, while the eighth-seed Golden State will be looking to move about .500 as they sit an even 15-15 after 30 games.
