The Santa Rosa Junior College men’s and women’s basketball teams both went undefeated in their tournament showings last weekend.
The SRJC men won their annual Kris Kringle Tournament, beating Foothill 80-66 and Redwoods 101-81, while the women went 3-0 at City College of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Classic with wins over L.A. Valley (67-43), L.A. Southwest (60-47) and East Los Angeles (70-44).
The SRJC men, ranked No. 5 in the California Community College Athletic Association poll released this week, shot lights out from three-point range over the two wins. The Bear Cubs knocked down 15-of-28 attempts from deep in their win over Foothill and 14-of-21 against Redwoods, including 10-of-11 in the first half.
Against Foothill, Travis Hightower scored 27 points with six rebounds and Gavin Cook-Whisenton had 16 points with 10 rebounds and five assists.
Against Redwoods, six players reached double figures, led by Spencer Langowski’s 19 points. Hightower added 17 points, Tayden Collins and Amari Gray added 15 and 12 points, respectively, off the bench. Dave Baraka scored 14 points and Vincent Jackson had 11, while Cook-Whisenton had eight points with nine rebounds and six assists.
The SRJC men will enter Big 8 play this weekend with a 10-2 overall record.
Jordan Washington posted three more double-doubles over the weekend for the SRJC women. She had 18 points with 12 rebounds in the win over L.A. Valley, 22 points and 11 rebounds against L.A. Southwest and 24 points and 11 rebounds in the win over East Los Angeles. She also shot 70 % from the field across the three games and tallied 10 total blocks.
The Justin-Siena grad is now averaging 21.3 points and 10.8 rebounds per game on 67.1% shooting from the field.
Kaia Eubanks also reached double figures in all three games, scoring 10, 14 and 12 points, respectively, with 22 total rebounds.
The SRJC women have now won six games in a row, are ranked No. 12 in the most recent CCCAA poll and will head into Big 8 play this weekend with a 10-2 overall record.

The Cardinal Newman alum played a season-high 18 minutes in a 93-74 win over Charleston Southern on Sunday, finishing with three points, six rebounds and four assists.
Keyonee Neal, Dominican University women’s basketball
The Rancho Cotate alum helped lead the Penguins to a pair of wins over the last week. She scored 19 points with 12 rebounds in a 74-70 win over Menlo and 12 points with seven rebounds in a 76-64 win over Jessup.
Abbie Mullins, Master’s University women’s basketball
The Cardinal Newman alum scored 11 points and tied a program record with 15 assists in a 125-24 win over Bethesda last week. The 125 points are a program record for the Mustangs and Mullins’ 15 assists ties the mark set by Kelly DeVries in the 2000-01 season.
Janelle Pena, CSU Monterey Bay women’s basketball
The Cardinal Newman alum scored a career-high nine points and grabbed a career-high six rebounds in 24 minutes of action in a 62-49 loss to Cal Poly Humboldt on Sunday.
Meredith Gilbertson, CSU East Bay women’s basketball
The Windsor alum grabbed double-digit rebounds in two games for the Pioneers last week. The SSU transfer had a career-high 15 rebounds in a 75-65 win over CSU Dominguez Hills and 12 rebounds in a 93-63 loss to CSU Los Angeles. Gilbertson currently leads the team in rebounding at a clip of 9.5 per game.
Andrew Pengel, Emporia State men’s basketball
The Rancho Cotate alum scored 11 points in a 92-72 loss to Rockhurst on Saturday.
Calum Rutherford, Montana State men’s basketball
The Analy alum scored four points and grabbed two rebounds in a 93-54 win over Northwest-Washington on Monday.
