NBA Christmas Day preview

From Thunder–Spurs to Wolves–Nuggets and Knicks–Cavs, which NBA Christmas Day matchup are you most looking forward to?

The Christmas day showcase for the defending NBA champions this year will feature one of the few teams to actually beat them this season.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder are set to host Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday, Dec. 25 as part of the league’s annual yuletide celebration. This will be the Thunder’s first appearance on Christmas day since 2018 when Russell Westbrook was still on the team.

The current version of the Thunder will be looking for some revenge after the Spurs knocked Oklahoma City out of the NBA Cup with a 111-109 win in the semifinal round on Dec. 13. The two teams also played on Tuesday in San Antonio, so it will be their third meeting in less than two weeks.

Wembanyama recently returned from injury and picked up where he left off at the beginning of the season despite a minutes restriction, though he was listed as questionable ahead of Tuesday’s game. Gilgeous-Alexander recently joined Wilt Chamberlain as just the second player in NBA history to score at least 20 points in 100 consecutive games. The Thunder lost twice over the past two weeks after starting the 2025-26 season with 24 wins in their first 25 games.
