The Spurs and Thunder are playing for the third time in 13 days, so there’s little I can say in the introduction that you don’t already know about the teams. The Thunder started the season 24-1, and have lost three of their last five games, with two of those losses to the Spurs and one to the Timberwolves. The Spurs have beaten the Thunder on a neutral court in Las Vegas, at home in San Antonio, and are looking to complete the trifecta tonight with a win in Oklahoma City, where the Thunder are currently undefeated this season.
The Spurs are on a 7 game win streak1, and are solidly ensconced in second place in the Western Conference standings. Today’s contest is the toughest of the season for the Silver and Black, and if they can overcome the defending champs in a hostile arena, it could be something to build on for the young Spurs. It’s still early in the season, so a win or a loss would mean a lot in the standings, but doesn’t settle anything, because the real goal is excellence in the playoffs. Having said that, a win today would secure the season series with the Thunder, with two more game remaining to play between the two teams.
Today is a special day for families, and I hope everyone can enjoy their Christmas regardless of who wins today’s game, but of course, it will the Spurs. Merry Christmas to all, and GO SPURS GOOO!!!
Victor Wembanyama will be assessed a technical foul for wearing a Santa hat onto the court.
