Zach Thompson details his best player prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for the Christmas Day matchup between the Timberwolves and Nuggets.
The Christmas Day marathon of NBA action concludes on Christmas night with a gift of a matchup between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Denver Nuggets in the Mile High City. With tip-off at 10:30 p.m. ET, it should be a great late-night matchup to finish a huge day of sports action. Let’s check out my top player prop bets from this matchup to consider on DraftKings Sportsbook.
In the overall matchup, the Nuggets are 3.5-point home favorites with the game total set at 239.5. This will be the third meeting between these teams this season, after the Nuggets won 127-114 and 123-112 in the two games in Minneapolis.
The Nuggets slipped up on Tuesday and lost to the Mavericks, dropping to 21-8 on the season with their second loss in the last week. The Wolves have howled to three straight wins and are 10-2 in their last 12 games. The surge has pushed them up to the No. 5 spot in the West, while the Nuggets are still third in the conference just behind the Thunder and Spurs, who go head to head earlier in the day.
As we put a bow on the Christmas festivities, let’s find the top player prop bets for this Western Conference contest:
Timberwolves vs. Nuggets Best Prop Bets on DraftKings Sportsbook
Tim Hardaway Jr. over 12.5 points (-120)
Hardaway has stepped up for the Nuggets with Christian Braun (ankle) and Aaron Gordon (hamstring) out, and he could get even more playing time if Cameron Johnson (knee) is out or limited. Johnson suffered a bone bruise in his right knee in the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s game and was announced as questionable to return but never came back. He’s expected to miss time, according to reports from ESPN’s Shams Charania on Wednesday.
Hardaway has averaged 14.3 points in 28.6 minutes per game over his last 15 contests. He has gone over this prop line in eight of his last 12 games (67%) while scoring 11 or 12 points in three more games, meaning he’s been within a bucket of going over in all but one of those twelve outings.
If Johnson is out or limited, he should have no problem getting to 13 points in this game after scoring 21 points against the Jazz and 23 points against the Mavericks in his two most recent games.
Rudy Gobert over 20.5 Points + Rebounds (-127)
Gobert has at least 21 points and rebounds in six of his last seven games and in eight of his last 10. He came in under this prop line in both of his matchups against Nikola Jokic this season, but he had gone over this prop line in six straight head-to-head contests with Jokic before that, so it’s not a matchup you have to avoid.
In his career, he has averaged 24.7 points and rebounds in his 30 games against Jokic. He’s also averaging 24.9 points and rebounds in his 13 road games this season.
Gobert has enough momentum coming into this contest, and he’ll probably have to play big minutes since he’ll have to try and slow down Jokic. As long as he avoids foul trouble, he should be able to get at least 21 points and rebounds.
Donte DiVincenzo over 3.5 rebounds (-151)
DiVincenzo only had two boards on Tuesday in the Timberwolves’ win over the Knicks, but he had at least four rebounds in 10 straight games before that. On the season, he’s averaging 4.3 rebounds per game and went over this prop line in 16 of his last 19 games overall, including his last matchup against the Nuggets, when he grabbed five rebounds.
DiVincenzo should bounce back from Tuesday’s down game rebounding and go back to over this prop on Christmas night.
Bonus Parlay Pick:Â Jamal Murray over 2.5 3PM (-167)
If you’re looking to use these props to create a Same Game Parlay (SPG) or an SPGx, one other leg you can add to the mix is the over on Murray’s 3PM. The four legs listed here combine to be a +750 SGP as you can see below.
Murray has hit at least three 3-pointers in five straight games and seven of his last nine contests. He had five three-pointers in his first games against Minnesota but only one in their first rematch of the year. Since he’s been so hot lately though and is averaging 3.5 3PM per game at home, I feel confident he can make at least three triples on Christmas night.
