The Boston Celtics and the Indiana Pacers were both supposed to be in the middle of a so-called ‘gap year’ season after the Pacers lost star guard Tyrese Haliburton and the Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum to Achilles tendon tears both sustained in the 2025 NBA Playoffs. But one team has leaned into losing while the other is finding improbable success after Tatum’s injury and letting talent like Jrue Holiday, Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, and Luke Kornet end up on other rosters.
That would of course be Boston, but now both ball clubs are also planning the moves to reconfigure their rosters for another run at a title. What can their games this week and the moves they might want to make tell us about their respective plans and futures? Are there deals to be struck between these two teams, or are they competing for the same players via trade?
