The latest Chicago Bulls news on Boxing Day, including another franchise record for Josh Giddey, some more Coby White trade news (and ideas) and a winning recipe that sure looks familiar.

Another Bulls record for Josh Giddey

Giddey has already inserted his name next to Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen in the franchise record books, but he inked it in there again for good measure.

In November, the 23-year-old became the first Bull since Jordan to post back-to-back triple-doubles. He’s also the only player in franchise history other than Jordan to score at least 15 points, grab at least 10 rebounds and dish out at least 10 assists in the same game.

In a Dec. 23 win over the Atlanta Hawks — Chicago’s fourth consecutive victory — Giddey recorded the fastest triple-double in Bulls history in just 20 minutes and 20 seconds.

Only Jordan (26) and Pippen (15) have more triple-doubles in a Bulls uniform. Only Nikola Jokic has more triple-doubles in the NBA this season. If Chicago can rip off a few more wins and climb back up the Eastern Conference standings, Giddey deserves his first All-Star berth.

The Bulls are in early-season form

Giddey and his mates were one of the league’s pleasant surprises when they started the year with five consecutive wins and a 6-1 record. It was not surprising at all, however, when the other shoe dropped and the Bulls tumbled down the standings.

But after four impressive victories over playoff-bound teams in the Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks — the latter three of which came on the road — the pendulum is swinging back the other way, and it’s not difficult to see why.

At the beginning of the season, Chicago was buoyed by one of the league’s best benches; Billy Donovan had seven players scoring in double figures on a nightly basis. Then injuries hit, and the Bulls started losing. Now, they’re healthy again and winning in a familiar fashion.

Seven scored in double figures in the win over the Cavs on Dec. 17. The same thing happened in a win in Cleveland two nights later. The Bulls scored 152 points in a 152-150 win over Atlanta, the NBA’s highest-scoring game this season, and nine players scored in double figures.

It’s Deja vu for for Chicago — most critically, including the winning part.

New Coby White, Nikola Vucevic trade rumors

Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints raised an interesting idea in his most recent rumor dump. According to those around the league, the concept of a trade between the Bulls and Hawks involving both White and Vucevic seems like the kind of deal that might go down at the Feb. 5 deadline.

Siegel is quick to point out that this is only a framework for a trade, not a concrete report of links between the two teams.

Still, it’s an interesting concept for the group in the Windy City. White and Vucevic may be the two most likely Bulls to change teams this season. Finding a deal that includes both would, theoretically, bring back more in return than if each were traded individually.
