CHICAGO — The 21st-ranked University of Chicago women’s basketball team returns to action on Tuesday night as the Maroons host Albion in their first game after the holiday break.
#21 UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO NOTES:
* UChicago comes into Tuesday night with a 6-2 record on the season.
* The Maroons entered the top-25 poll at #22 on December 8, and the Maroons jumped to #21 in the latest poll released two weeks ago.
* UChicago has won two consecutive games over top-25 opponents, including a 73-65 overtime win at #25 Calvin and a 73-54 win over #13 Illinois Wesleyan.
* This is the first time since November 20-22, 2019 that the Maroons have won consecutive games over top-25 opponents, and the win over Calvin was the first top-25 road win for the Maroons since they took down #14 Wheaton (IL) on November 20, 2019.
* Both of the UChicago losses this season have come to top-25 teams, with an overtime loss to #3 UW-Oshkosh and on the road at #24 Carroll (WI) to put the Maroons at 1-2 against top-25 opponents this season.
* The Maroons added the biggest win in program history earlier this year when the team took down Marian (WI) 84-29 in the opening game of the Midway Classic.
* Annabelle Spotts leads the team with 11.5 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game on the season while shooting 48% from the floor and 46% from long range.
* Chris Sanders and Bri Simpson are also averaging double figures with 10.3 and 10.1 points per game on the year.
* Kasi Samuda leads the team with 8.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game while also adding 5.7 points per game on the year.
* Following their showdown with Albion, the Maroons will hit the road for their final non-conference showdown of the season against Wheaton (IL) on Saturday.
ALBION NOTES:
* Albion enters the week with a 9-2 record overall on the season and a 2-1 record in MIAA play.
* The Britons opened the season with seven consecutive wins, including three wins by two possessions or fewer.
* Albion snapped a two-game skid with a pair of wins over Knox and Whitworth in Hawaii last weekend.
* Meghan Trewhella leads the team with 21.2 points per game on 56% shooting from the floor.
* Ava Guilford and Khaleeya Cook have added double figures scoring with 11.8 and 10.2 points per game.
* Guilford also leads Albion with 6.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game while shooting 47% from long range this season.
* Following their game with UChicago, the Britons will return to MIAA play with a road contest against the Adrian Bulldogs on Saturday.
SERIES HISTORY:
* Tuesday will mark just the second matchup in program history between the Maroons and the Britons.
* UChicago won the only meeting between the two programs 66-47 last season in Michigan.
* Kate Gross and Annabelle Spotts both scored in double figures in the 2024 win for UChicago.
* Kasi Samuda led eight points and a team-high six rebounds and three blocks in the win.
