Admiral Ackbar knew what was going on. He had very few lines in Star Wars VI, Return of the Jedi, but his line “It’s a TRAP!” is certainly among the most memorable in the Star Wars franchise. The Jazz are on the second game of a back-to-back, having upset Cade Cunningham’s Detroit Pistons last night with Keyonte George and Lauri Markkanen leading the way. The Jazz are 11-19 on the season, and making a run at play-in territory. Coach Will Hardy has them playing hard, and this might be the year that they exit the tanking ranks.
The Spurs are on a 8 game win streak1, and are solidly ensconced in second place in the Western Conference standings. It would be easy for the Spurs to lose a bit of focus for tonight’s game, having just beaten their nemeses, the OKC Thunder twice in a row, and with important game coming up with the Cavs and the Knicks, who have both previously beaten the Spurs, although the Knicks loss was a bit off the books. Officially, the Spurs have only lost one game in December, to the previously mentioned Cavaliers, and it would be an awesome achievement if the Silver and Black could make it through the a full month of games with only one loss by winning their three remaining games in 2025. But that begins tonight, with the surprising Jazz, who are the first domino that will need to fall. De’Aaron Fox is out tonight with an adductor strain2. Fox has been a key player in the win streak, but tonight’s game will give a bigger opportunity for Harper to have another great game, and maybe for the Spurs to unleash their secret weapon, Jordan McLaughlin. Let’s GOOO, Spurs!!
