Russell Westbrook passes Magic Johnson (10,141) for 7th on the NBA’s all-time assists list.
Kings guard Russell Westbrook reached two sustained marks of excellence on Saturday, when he passed Magic Johnson for seventh place on the NBA’s all-time assists chart and became the 14th player in league history to log 2,000 steals.
Westbrook, a nine-time All-Star and the 2017 Kia Most Valuable Player, logged his 10,142nd assist in the first quarter of Sacramento’s 113-107 victory over Dallas on Saturday.
Westbrook, who has led the NBA in assists three times, logged seven more assists over the course of the game and now has 10,149 in 1,268 career games.
Magic Johnson logged his 10,141 assists in 906 career games.

Westbrook, who led the NBA in assists three times (’18, ’19, ’21), can catch two more players on the all-time assist chart this season.
Next up is No. 6 Mark Jackson, who had 10,334 assists in 1,296 games, and only one assist ahead of him is No. 5 Steve Nash (10,335 in 1,217 games.) LeBron James sits at No. 4 (11,673 assists in 1,575 games) and he’s still padding his legacy.
Westbrook also logged steal No. 2,000 on Saturday, and he has a shot to pass two players this season if he can keep up his pace. Westbrook, averaging 1.5 steals through 31 games, is creeping up on Mookie Blaylock (13th; 2,075 steals) and Hall-of-Famer Karl Malone (12th; 2,085). Alvin Robertson (2,112 steals) and Hall-of-Famer Hakeem Olajuwon (2,162) follow after that.
