Coming off two straight losses in the Western Conference Finals, the Minnesota Timberwolves are ready to finally get over the hump. Minnesota has a solid core in place, and it is led by one of the better players in the entire NBA, star guard Anthony Edwards.

However, this team has come up short when it’s mattered most, and they could use some upgrades across the board. The Timberwolves especially need help in the backcourt, with veteran Mike Conley not able to perform at the same level any longer.

Conley is still an impactful player, but due to his age, he needs more help to take on the load needed for this team. This could see Minnesota look to make some moves ahead of the NBA trade deadline, and they have already been linked to a few guys.

But how aggressive the Timberwolves’ front office will be remains to be seen, and could ultimately determine the overall ability of this roster. Minnesota can’t keep wasting the prime of Edwards, so addressing the holes across the roster before it’s too late needs to be a priority this season.

Coby White Traded to Minnesota Timberwolves

One option for the Timberwolves to consider, if they want to upgrade the roster, could be veteran point guard Coby White of the Chicago Bulls. Minnesota has reportedly been interested in White this season, and we could see a trade go down ahead of the deadline in February next year.

According to NBA insider Sam Amick of The Athletic, the interest in White is real. But the way a trade would work between the two teams could complicate matters.

“A Wolves source confirmed that there is legitimate interest in White, but the 25-year-old’s looming free agency appears to be a significant hindrance to a possible trade. He’s making $12.8 million in the final year of his deal and is widely expected to seek a major raise this summer. But the fear of that unknown, it seems, means this is the kind of “rental” situation that drops the price point precipitously and creates a negotiating gap between the two sides,” Amick wrote.

Adding White to the mix could help the Timberwolves, giving them much more depth in the backcourt. White has the ability to help raise the ceiling of this team, and it could see them be even more formidable in the Western Conference this year.

White can both be a playmaker, while also being able to get his own shot. This could help unlock the Timberwolves’ offensive attack, giving them someone other than Edwards to control the flow of the offense.

Since White will be a free agent at the end of the year, the team could bring him in for a trial run to see how he gels. If the two sides worked well together, he could resign in the offseason and become the new point guard for this team moving forward.
