The Brooklyn Nets have quietly been one of the NBA’s best teams in December. They have a 7-3 record in the month, which is an impressive tally for a team that is 13th in the Eastern Conference standings. Before December, they had a 3-16 record, so reaching a 10-19 tally after that horrible start is impressive work.

Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez has done a magnificent job leading this team to success. Michael Porter Jr. has been superb as the star player, especially with the absence of Cam Thomas. Against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Thomas finally made his return, and he made sure to stamp his comeback with a good game.
Thomas’ return has inspired the Nets to play better
After 20 games on the sidelines, Thomas is finally back on the active roster. He was dealing with a hamstring strain, so he needed some time to fully recover, considering it is a lower-body injury.

In his return against the Timberwolves, Thomas looked lively. He caught fire in his return, as he scored 30 points, grabbed three rebounds, and dished out four assists. Considering he only played 20 minutes, that was an amazing performance from Thomas.

After the game, the praise for Thomas was well-deserved, as he proved that he can continue emerging as one of the best scorers. He did so on a minute restriction, and he came off the bench. Since they were playing against the Timberwolves, this was an even more impressive result for Brooklyn.

“It was great to see him on the court tonight. He brings elite scoring at all three levels that we need as a team. I already knew what he was going to do, I’ve seen it every day since I got here, we came in together. It felt good having him on the court with us tonight,” Day’Ron Sharpe said after the big win against Minnesota.
“We got these two elite scorers in Mike and CT, and we continue to play defense that we’ve been doing, the sky is the limit.”
Moving forward, Fernandez and the Nets front office have a good foundation. Porter is involved in trade talks as one of the most enticing players in the league. They could pull the trigger on a trade and get back valuable assets. However, it might be worth it to at least consider sticking with the same roster.

They have done well in December, and if they can maintain this form throughout the season, Sharpe is correct with his assessment of the Nets’ potential. It will be difficult to ignore the trade talks for Porter, but the Nets have options that they did not have before.
