The Brooklyn Nets signed Auburn alumnus Chaney Johnson to a two-way contract, the NBA team announced on Friday.

The 6-foot-7 guard/forward was playing for the Cleveland Charge, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ affiliate in the NBA Gatorade League. In 16 games with the Charge this season, Johnson averaged 12.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.2 blocked shots and posted three consecutive 20-point games in the NBA G League Tip-Off Tournament.

Brooklyn filled the only open two-way contract in the NBA by signing Johnson.

A two-way contract allows a player to move between an NBA team and its NBA Gatorade League affiliate without needing to pass through waivers and earn the same pay in both leagues. Each team can carry three two-way players who may appear on the active roster of the NBA team for as many as 50 games. A two-way contract is worth $636,435 for the 2025-26 season, which is half of the rookie minimum, and is not guaranteed.

Brooklyn’s G League affiliate is the Long Island Nets, based in Uniondale, New York.

A prep standout at Thompson High School in Alabaster, Johnson won the Gulf South Conference Player of the Year Award for the 2022-23 season at Alabama Huntsville.

Johnson played 73 games across two seasons at Auburn. In the Tigers’ 2024-25 Final Four campaign, he averaged 9.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.

Johnson joined the Cavaliers as an undrafted rookie. He averaged 5.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.5 steals in four games for Cleveland’s team in the NBA 2K26 Summer League in Las Vegas before going to training camp with the Cavaliers.

Johnson becomes the ninth former Auburn player under contract in the NBA this season, joining:

Philadelphia 76ers forward Johni BroomeSacramento Kings center Dylan CardwellWashington Wizards guard Sharife CooperDallas Mavericks guard Miles KellyUtah Jazz center Walker KesslerMiami Heat guard Davion MitchellChicago Bulls forward Isaac OkoroHouston Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr.
