What to know about NBA on NBC’s Cavs vs. Spurs game on Monday, December 29
Monday’s game marks the second of two meetings between the Cavs and the Spurs this season. The Spurs were the visiting team earlier this month in a December 5 date at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, a high-scoring game that the Cavaliers won — complete with a little come-from-behind drama — by a 130-117 margin.
Even without the services of a then-injured Darius Garland, the Cavs had plenty of scoring standouts in their first tussle against the Spurs. That included a team-leading 28-point effort from star guard Donovan Mitchell, plus 24 more from Jaylon Tyson. Evan Mobley (17 points) also ended the evening in double figures, alongside Dean Wade (12 points) and Craig Porter Jr. (11 points), who each came off the bench to put up good scoring numbers.

The Spurs, meanwhile, fell to the Cavs without the services of star center Victor Wembanyama, who at the time was nursing a leg injury. With shooting guard Stephon Castle also out of commission, starters Devin Vassell (28 points) and De’Aaron Fox (25 points) kept things close for the Spurs before the Cavs pulled away, with the Spurs’ road effort aided by double-digit bench production courtesy of Keldon Johnson (14 points) and Jeremy Sochan (10 points).
This week’s Cavs-Spurs matchup serves as the opening game in an NBA on NBC Monday doubleheader, which continues with a 10:30 p.m. ET late game between the Dallas Mavericks vs. Portland Trail Blazers that will also air on NBC and stream on Peacock.
