The men’s basketball team opened play in the Al Senavitis Memorial Tournament on Sunday afternoon with a dramatic 67–66 victory over host school DeSales University (Pa.).

Baruch burst out of the gate with a 9–0 run and maintained a double-digit advantage throughout the first half. Although the Bulldogs briefly trimmed the margin to single digits at 22–14, the Bearcats remained in control and carried a 33–17 lead into halftime.

Baruch extended their advantage to as many as 20 points early in the second half (39–19), but DeSales used a long three-pointer to spark a momentum shift on its home floor. Within the final 10 minutes, the Bulldogs cut the deficit to 49–41 at the free-throw line and later surged ahead 63–62 to the excitement of their home court.

Baruch stayed composed down the stretch, answering at the charity stripe as Peter Douvres tied the game at 63–63 and Trevon Coppin later followed to make it 65–65. DeSales then hit a free throw to take a 66–65 lead, setting up the Bearcats with the final possession.

On the ensuing play, Leyi Adebayo drove for a strong look that narrowly missed, but Coppin fought through traffic, beat five Bulldogs in the paint to secure the offensive rebound, and put it back in for the game-winning basket with 1.3 seconds remaining to win 67-66.

The Bearcats opened the second half of their season schedule with an impressive victory and will advance to the tournament championship game on Monday at 6:00 p.m. against McDaniel College (Md.). McDaniel earned its spot in the final with a narrow 61–60 win over Gwynedd Mercy University (Pa.).
