Stud
Cade Cunningham, Detroit Pistons at Los Angeles Lakers ($10,500)
Cade is the straw that stirs the Pistons drink. Scratch that. He is the oil that lubricates the pistons, the engine that makes the car go, the….Ok, I’ll stop now. The usage rate is 30.9 and Cunningham has three triple-doubles on the season. He has seven games over 60 FPTS, with two of those in the last three games, and a high of 96 FPTS! The Lakers can score but can’t guard a reflection. In the month of December, Los Angeles is 29th in defensive rating.
Other Options: Luka Doncic ($12,000), Tyrese Maxey ($9,600), James Harden ($9,100), Keyonte George ($8,100), Derrick White ($7,400), Payton Pritchard ($6,400)
Value
Jaden Ivey, Detroit Pistons at Los Angeles Lakers ($3,900)
Since making his season debut in late November, Ivey has been relegated to the teens for playing time. On Sunday, though, he was allowed to go 29 minutes. Yes, it was in a blowout loss, but it’s encouraging that the Pistons finally allowed Ivey to get close to 30 minutes. I think this is the start of fantasy relevancy for Ivey. He’s put up at least 20 FPTS in each of the last three games and should get there once again if he receives close to the same playing time, especially since the Lakers are porous on defense.
Other Options: Dennis Schroder ($5,500), Brice Sensabaugh ($4,400), Hugo Gonzalez ($4,200), Nick Smith Jr. ($3,700)
Forward
Stud
Kawhi Leonard, Los Angeles Clippers vs. Sacramento Kings ($9,500)
Leonard is playing like someone stole his money. It all started four games ago when Ivica Zubac got injured. Since then, Leonard has put up at least 54 FPTS in all four contests with a massive 90.2 FPTS on Sunday. Replacing Zubac with Brook Lopez in the lineup has opened up the paint for Leonard to operate. I don’t see why he doesn’t continue to ball out, especially against a Kings team that is 28th in defensive rating.
Other Options: Jaylen Brown ($9,400), Lauri Markkanen ($7,900), Jaren Jackson Jr. ($7,700), Santi Aldama ($7,100),
Value
Nique Clifford, Sacramento Kings at Los Angeles Clippers ($3,900)
Over the last five games, Clifford has been a consistent part of the rotation, playing around 24 minutes a night and contributing a little something something in every category sans blocks. That’s resulted in at least 20 FPTS in all of those contests.
Other Options: Tobias Harris ($5,200), Brice Sensabaugh ($4,400), Hugo Gonzalez ($4,200), Ron Holland ($3,400)
Center
Stud
Jalen Duren, Detroit Pistons at Los Angeles Lakers ($7,500)
If it looks like I’m picking on the Lakers, well, I am. It’s not my fault they struggle on defense. Duren should have no issues dealing with Deandre Ayton and will likely get plenty of cheapies after Cunningham breaks down the defense. Duren has seven games with at least 50 FPTS, but five of those came in the first month of the season. I think there’s a good chance he gets another one.
Other Options: Joel Embiid ($8,300) if he plays, Jaren Jackson Jr. ($7,700), Santi Aldama ($7,100)
Value
Brook Lopez, Los Angeles Clippers vs. Sacramento Kings ($5,000)
Since Lopez replaced Zubac in the lineup, he’s put up at least 20 FPTS in four straight with a high of 46.8 FPTS. His ability to space the floor has been a boon for both Leonard and James Harden. In addition, the attention that defenses have had to give to Harden and Leonard has provided plenty of open looks from downtown. The Kings are bad on defense and Lopez should have no issues getting busy against Raynaud.
Other Options: Jusuf Nurkic ($6,000), Andre Drummond ($6,000) if Embiid is out, Maxime Raynaud ($5,800), Neemias Queta ($5,300)
