The fine was revealed by the NBA on Tuesday. This is because he interrupted Collin Gillespie’s postgame interview during the Suns’ most recent victory over the Wizards, using foul language. With an average of 19.3 points, 7.3 assists, and 1.7 steals, Gillespie has been the driving force behind the Suns’ last three victories. In 29 minutes versus Washington, the point guard finished with 25 points, six assists, four rebounds, two steals, no fouls, and two turnovers.
Jalen Green’s playful interruption during a live interview leads to a costly NBA fine
After Monday night’s 115-101 road victory over the Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns guard Jalen Green was fined $25,000 by the NBA for using profanity while jokingly interrupting a live on-court interview.Despite being injured and inactive, Jalen Green has an interesting situation where he has turn up money to the league office. The official notice read:“Phoenix Suns guard Jalen Green has been fined $25,000 for using profanity when interrupting a teammate’s live television interview, it was announced today by James Jones, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations…”It continued:“Green made his comments during an on-court interview at the conclusion of the Suns’ 115-101 victory over the Washington Wizards on Jan. 29 at Capital One Arena…”In particular, Green made it clear when Collin Gillespie, who led Phoenix with a spectacular 25-point outburst, was being interviewed by the Suns local broadcast. Green interrupted guard Collin Gillespie’s on-court interview while they were celebrating. Green and another Phoenix guard, Jordan Goodwin, were right on cue when Suns guard Collin Gillespie talked about how his teammates have been finding him during his third-year breakout. Green entered with a cheerful yell, a supportive dap, and a loud “Yeah!” “They can’t f*** with you!” Green yelled to Gillespie, who was clearly taken aback by the expletives, as Goodwin left the frame. So much so that Gillespie grinned and exclaimed, “Oh my God. On live TV, bro?””It’s a family show!” the interviewer added.”I don’t care” was Green’s response before he shouted at Gillespie again and left while Gillespie referred to him as “my dawg.”
Injury concerns and unexpected breakout shape the Suns’ season narrative
Green didn’t play on Monday. Due to a hamstring injury, he has only participated in two games this season. Green’s right hamstring issue is still healing, thus he won’t be playing for the Suns this season. Since the team acquired him from the Houston Rockets in the blockbuster Kevin Durant trade last offseason, he has only appeared in two games.A microcosm of the Suns’ surprising success this season is Gillespie, who was not selected in the 2022 draft after graduating from Villanova. By tripling his minutes average from the previous season and averaging 13.9 points, 5.1 assists, 4 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game, the guard has surpassed expectations and emerged as a key member of the Suns, who are currently 19-13 and ranked seventh in the Western Conference. For the first time since 2019–2020, Phoenix missed the playoffs last season despite having the largest salary in league history. Even without Bradley Beal and Kevin Durant, the Suns are off to a stronger start this time. Also read: “It starts with both of us”- Jalen Green and Devin Booker set to ignite Phoenix Suns’ offense in 2025-26 season
