Heading into the 2025-26 NBA season, the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers were consensus favorites in the Eastern Conference. With two months of the season in the history books, the Cavaliers no longer appear to be a viable threat, and the Knicks are still coming to grips with Mike Brown’s movement-heavy system.
However, New York still has all the tools it needs to be a serious playoff contender. As such, if the Celtics do embark on a deep playoff run, they may find themselves facing off against the Knicks for the second straight season. Even though Boston is playing some inspired basketball, New York would undoubtedly have the talent advantage at almost every position.

Still, the Celtics have been outperforming expectations and have proven that a never-say-die attitude can work wonders. That’s why the “First To The Floor” podcast recently spent some time discussing how much of a threat the Knicks are to the Celtics’ chances of postseason success this season, and whether New York should fear a potential trap series against Joe Mazzulla’s team.
