Portland Trail Blazers forward Toumani Camara has made the NBA All-Defensive Second Team, the league announced.

The second-year forward received six First-Team Votes and 62 Second-Team votes, finishing with 74 total points on the voting ballot. He becomes the first Trail Blazer to make an All-Defensive Team since Theo Ratliff received Second-Team honors in 2004.

The rest of this year’s All-Defensive Second Team included Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert, Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr., Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jalen Williams and LA Clippers center Ivica Zubac.

The All-Defensive First Team featured Cleveland Cavaliers center Evan Mobley, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, Atlanta Hawks guard Dyson Daniels, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Luguentz Dort and Houston Rockets guard Amen Thompson.

A panel of 100 media members selected five players for the All-Defensive First Team and five players for the All-Defensive Second Team at any position. A First-Team vote was worth two points and a Second-Team vote was worth one point.

Camara’s 74 total points ranked ninth among the 10 players who received All-Defensive honors. The total put him above Gobert (65 points) and just below Williams (79 points). Mobley, the NBA Defensive Player of the Year, unsurprisingly led all players with 99 First-Team votes and 199 total points.

Camara established himself as one of the most versatile and persistent defenders in the NBA during his second season. This honor adds to the proof. The 25-year-old averaged 0.6 blocks and 1.5 steals per game and led the NBA with 31 charges drawn, nine more than the runner-up. He got those numbers while taking on the opposing team’s toughest assignment each night, guarding positions 1-5 and picking up opponents the full 94 feet of the court.

Camara is just the ninth player in Trail Blazers franchise history to earn All-Defensive honors.
