Miami Heat forward Jaime Jaquez Jr. exited Saturday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves early with a sprained right ankle, the team announced. He will not return.
Initially, the team indicated that he was “likely” to return, just to rule him out shortly thereafter.
The third-year wing finished with just six points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 10 minutes. He made three of his five field goal attempts — all in the paint.
Jaquez, 24, has been one of the Heat’s best offensive players this season. He entered the game averaging 16.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists on 53.3 percent shooting. His 58.4 true shooting percentage this season would be a career high.
It was a difficult first half for Miami. They were careless with the basketball, coughing it up eight times, while shooting just 41.5 percent from the floor (5-17 3PT). They are going to need extra contributions from Norman Powell, Andrew Wiggins, Davion Mitchell and others in the second half.
