The Chicago Bulls are currently hanging on to a spot in the Eastern Conference Play-In Tournament. This is as we approach the halfway mark of the season. The team is dealing with some injuries and could view this as a year to reset things. They may build for the future. Doing that would mean potentially trading away some talent on the roster. Let’s take a look at one player who could be sent out of Chicago ahead of the trade deadline.
The Chicago Bulls could trade away Ayo Dosunmu this trade deadline
Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale listed Dosunmu as a potential trade target for the Boston Celtics. Below is the reasoning behind it that he mentioned
“Ayo Dosunmu placates anyone who wants the Celtics to swing for another ball-handler. He’s not a traditional floor general but can put defenses in rotation when going downhill. His fit is more tantalizing thanks to his bandwidth for guarding up and a $7.5 million expiring salary. “
This trade in itself is a little tricky. The Celtics are a first apron team, meaning they need to make the salaries work for a trade to be completed. A one-for-one swap of Dosunmu for Payton Pritchard works. Yet, it feels like a pick may also need to also be attached to make a trade go through. Dosunmu has been shooting well from three, connecting on 42.1% of his attempts this season.
He’s averaging 13.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 0.6 steals per game. He is a guy who can do a bit of everything on the court.
With the Celtics looking to be a threat in the Eastern Conference, they may be willing to overpay a little to get Dosunmu to help out the roster. This is despite, however, not having Jayson Tatum. Chicago may view this as a lost season, as they already have Josh Giddey out for a few weeks with a hamstring injury. Therefore, looking towards the future would be good for the franchise.
Would you trade him for Pritchard and a lottery-protected first-round pick?
