Do Detroit Pistons already have their “Josh Hart” in Ausar Thompson?

We breakdown Ausar Thompson’s playoffs vs. Knicks, and what role he can fulfill for Pistons. Watch, listen and subscribe to “The Pistons Pulse” podcast.

The Detroit Pistons vs. New York Knicks game today does not have a TV channel, instead streaming only on Peacock.

Monday night’s playoff rematch features the top two teams in the Eastern Conference, with the Pistons at 26-9 and Knicks at 23-12 after losing three straight. The Pistons played Sunday afternoon in Cleveland, winning 114-110. The Knicks lost back-to-back home games Friday (to Atlanta) and Saturday (to Philadelphia).

The Pistons and Knicks meet for the first time this season after they played an entertaining first-round playoff series last spring, with the Knicks escaping in six games by winning all three in Detroit at Little Caesars Arena by a total of six points. The Knicks won Game 3, 118-116, Game 4, 94-93, when an NBA official said postgame a foul call was missed on the final shot, and Game 6, 116-113, on Jalen Brunson’s series-winning 3-pointer. Brunson averaged 31.5 points in the series on 43.6/33.3/81.5 shooting splits and 8.2 assists, despite the best efforts of Ausar Thompson defensively.

This is the first of just three games between the Knicks and Pistons in the regular season: The Knicks visit again Feb. 6, and the Pistons visit Madison Square Garden on Feb. 19, the first game after the All-Star break.

Omari Sankofa II, Detroit Free Press: After an impressive win in Cleveland on Sunday, the Pistons will be tested on the second night of a back-to-back, this one at home against the Knicks. They will miss both Tobias Harris and Jalen Duren against a Knicks team that is only missing one starter (Josh Hart), and New York has two big wings to throw at Cade Cunningham on defense in OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges. After shooting just 41.1% overall against the Cavaliers, I’m not convinced the Pistons will be able to summon enough offensively to keep up with the Knicks. The pick: Knicks 117, Pistons 112.
