What you need to know about the NBA on NBC’s Heat vs. Wolves game

The Heat and Timberwolves only face each other twice during the current 2025-2026 regular season, trading road trips in almost back-to-back fashion on January 3 and again soon afterward on January 6. Edwards has led the Timberwolves in scoring as Minnesota (and pretty much everyone else) tries to catch up to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference’s Northwest Division standings — which admittedly has looked like a pretty tall order against the reigning NBA champs.

Miami, meanwhile, has seen team-leading scoring that’s been nearly neck-and-neck from both Tyler Herro and Norman Powell this season — though Herro’s missed out on a string of recent games due to a persistent right foot injury. Even as they dip further into their depth chart, though, the Heat remain right in the thick of their Southeast Division competition in the NBA’s Eastern Conference, vying with division foes Orlando and Atlanta for a clear leader to emerge.

Peacock NBA Monday and Coast 2 Coast Tuesday swing into January with a stacked slate of matchups this week (including a rare January 5 tripleheader on Peacock NBA Monday) — but it’s all building toward something even bigger when Martin Luther King Jr. Day arrives on Monday, January 19. In an NBA first, NBC Sports is bringing a mind-boggling quadrupleheader of live NBA games to NBC and Peacock for this year’s MLK Day, including a Peacock-exclusive contest between the Milwaukee Bucks vs. Atlanta Hawks to get the ball rolling at 1 p.m. ET.
