ORLANDO, Fla. — The Philadelphia 76ers continue to reap the benefits of having Dominick Barlow on the roster. Signed to just a two-way deal in the summer, Barlow has stepped in and given the Sixers a big boost of energy and offensive skill in the starting lineup at the power forward spot for this group.
After scoring 11 points and grabbing nine rebounds in Friday’s 103-91 win over the Orlando Magic, the 4-year big man from Overtime Elite is averaging 8.5 points and 5.2 rebounds on the season. Of his nine rebounds on Friday, four of them were on the offensive glass as he continues to make strides and give the Sixers a big spark.
Barlow is somebody who doesn’t need the ball to be successful. He’s something of a glue guy for the Sixers and that right there is a big difference for this group.
“Yeah, that alone,” Paul George said of Barlow after the win. “You got guys that don’t need the ball and they just know how to be productive still. Those are the guys that, like, really make the team special because they don’t have an agenda. They’re not in the ego to where they need the ball.”
George, a 9-time All-Star, used to need the ball in his hands in order to make a difference for whatever team he was on. With the Sixers, he is looking to take a page out of Barlow’s book and play off Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid in order to make a difference.

“That’s how I try to approach the game, like Dom’s got the right mentality, the right attitude,” George finished. “You can impact the game without having plays or needing the ball. You just go and play as hard as you can and try to make plays, and that’s what he does for us.”
The Sixers will finish this 3-game trip with a back-to-back in Toronto against the Raptors on Sunday and Monday.
