CHICAGO — Jason Kidd’s night Saturday lasted just 6 minutes and 16 seconds.

The Mavericks coach was ejected from Dallas’ game in Chicago just over six minutes into the first quarter after receiving double technical fouls from crew chief Scott Foster.

Kidd attempted to call a timeout to issue a coach’s challenge for a goaltending call that went against Mavericks guard Max Christie. The fourth-year guard blocked a layup attempt by Bulls guard Ayo Dosunmu just before the ball touched the backboard, a play Kidd desired to have reversed.

There was a stoppage, but Kidd wasn’t allowed to challenge the play. He expressed his frustration with Foster and received two consecutive technical fouls, leading to his first ejection in nearly four years.

According to a postgame pool report interview conducted with Foster, Kidd was ejected for using profanity toward an official on two separate occasions and was given a technical foul for each occasion.

Mavericks associate head coach Frank Vogel served as Dallas’ standing head coach with Kidd ejected. Dallas trailed 18-13 at the time of Kidd’s exit.

With Vogel calling the shots, Mavericks assistant Josh Broghamer was elevated to the front of the bench and joined the lead assistants on the floor for their customary huddle before addressing the team.

It’s not every day that you see Kidd getting ejected from a game. The last time he was booted from a game was on Dec. 19, 2022 in a loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Mavericks were already without Anthony Davis, PJ Washington and Brandon Williams, along with several players who will miss an extended amount of the regular season.

Losing their coach for 3.5 quarters is just the latest in a constant string of losses.
