It’s pretty clear at this point in the NBA season who the dominant forces in the league will be as we make the turn toward the postseason, and in the Western Conference, that honor goes to the Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs.

The Thunder came into this season as the defending NBA champions, led by defending 2025 MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, with all the ingredients for a repeat trip to the Finals. The Spurs entered the year with a bright future, finally emerging as contenders after years of rebuilding capped off by the addition of star big man Victor Wembanyama. Together these two teams have becoming the dueling leaders of the West, and this week, the NBA on NBC brings us their latest must-see head-to-head showdown.

What you need to know about the Spurs vs. Thunder game on NBA on NBC’s Coast 2 Coast Tuesday
The Thunder entered the season as the defending champs, and they haven’t once looked back. Through the first three months of the 2025-26 season, they have the league’s best record, and they’re the only team in the NBA with losses still in the single digits. That’s thanks in no small part to the efforts of SGA, who leads his team in scoring and assists and remains in contention for this season’s scoring title. But this is also every bit the team effort. The Thunder have the league’s best point differential and the best defense so far this season, thanks to blocks from Chet Holmgren and rebounds from Isaiah Hartenstein, and their offense is consistently in the league’s top five.Â

Oklahoma City looks dominant, but the one team that’s been able to best them at every turn so far this year has been, you guessed it, the San Antonio Spurs. On paper, they’re second in the West behind the Thunder, but Wembanyama’s squad is almost as dominant. To make matters even more interesting, three of their wins this season have been against the Thunder. The two teams are set to meet a total of five times this regular season, and despite the dominance and seeming statistical superiority of the Thunder, the Spurs have won the first three meetings. Will the fourth matchup be the one where the Thunder finally get a win? Tune in Tuesday night to find out.Â
