Michigan drops two spots after their first loss of the season; hoping to bounce back Wednesday against Washington.
Michigan’s run as one of college basketball’s elite teams took a hit this week as the Wolverines dropped in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll following a stunning home loss to Wisconsin.
Michigan (14-1, 4-1), previously ranked No. 2 and unbeaten this season, fell 91-88 to unranked Wisconsin on Saturday at Crisler Center. The loss knocked Michigan out of its No. 2 spot and sent the Wolverines sliding to No. 4 in the Week 11 AP poll released Monday. Michigan held a 14-point lead in the first half before Wisconsin rallied to claim the three-point win.
The loss shuffled the national landscape, reducing the number of undefeated Division I teams to five [No. 1 Arizona, No. 2 Iowa State, No. 8 Nebraska, No. 10 Vanderbilt, and Miami (OH)].
Michigan’s loss helps unblemished Arizona retain the top spot in the rankings and gain the top spot in the Coaches poll. Iowa State and UConn in this week’s poll as well.
The Wolverines now turn their focus to Washington on Wednesday as they look to rebound in the competitive Big Ten. This will be a road game for the Wolverines. Tipoff at Hec Edmundson Pavilion is scheduled at 10:30 p.m. ET.
