CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – The Charlotte Hornets announced on Wednesday that they will be retiring the No. 30 jersey for one of the greatest players in franchise history at a game in March.
Dell Curry, one of the franchise’s greatest players, will have his No. 30 jersey retired on March 19 when the Hornets host the Orlando Magic at the Spectrum Center.
Curry becomes only the second player to have his jersey retired, joining Bobby Phills.
The former Virginia Tech Hokie played 10 seasons with the Hornets from 1988-1998 and spent more than 25 years with the franchise as player, broadcaster, and ambassador.
When Curry retired, he ranked as the leader in games played with 701, points with 9,839, field goals made at 3,951, and three’s at 929. Curry still ranks in the top 10 numerous categories including second in points, first in games played and seasons.
Curry helped lead the Hornets to three 50-plus win campaigns, including a franchise-best 54–28 record in 1996–97, and four playoff appearances.
