BYU held off a late charge at Utah on Saturday night for an 89-84 road victory as Richie Saunders came up with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Robert Wright III added 20 points and six assists, and AJ Dybantsa scored 20 points in the win. The Cougars led by as much as 13 points before the Utes got as close as one with 3:15 remaining. Saunders hit two free throws with eight seconds left to seal the deal.
TCU shot just 32.1% in the first half and never recovered in an 86-73 loss to visiting No. 1 Arizona on Saturday. Tanner Toolson came off the bench for 20 points in 22 minutes while Brock Harding finished with 11 points and six assists, Jayden Pierre scored 11 points, and David Punch posted 10 points and eight rebounds as the Horned Frogs fell to 1-2 in Big 12 play.
The Horned Frogs snapped a 15-game losing streak to the Cougars dating to March 2, 1999, with a home win last season, but still trail the all-time series 18-4. Dybantsa paced BYU with an average of 22.9 points, with Saunders netting 19.4 points and 2.2 steals per game, Wright putting up 17.4 points and 5.4 assists a night, and Keba Keita grabbing 8.0 rebounds per contest. Punch averages 14.1 points, 7.8 boards, and 2.6 blocks for TCU. Pierre scores 10.9 points per game, and Harding dishes 6.2 assists per outing.
