NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets (12-30) had an opportunity to end a 12-game losing streak against the New York Knicks (26-18) that has been intact since the 2022-23 season while playing at Madison Square Garden. Brooklyn was technically playing a road game, but they didn’t have to travel far to visit the Knicks and in the end, it didn’t matter that much.
The Nets lost at the Knicks on Wednesday 120-66 in one of the most embarrassing games in franchise history as Brooklyn lost three out of four quarters by at least 10 points. Forward Michael Porter Jr. led the way for the Nets with 12 points and six rebounds, but he once again struggled shooting the ball to the tune of finishing the game shooting 4-of-14 from the field. Ziaire Williams had 11 points off the bench and Noah Clowney had eight points.
Both ends of the floor were once again a problem for the Nets, highlighted by the fact that they finished the game shooting 29.0% from the field while allowing New York to shoot 57.0% from the floor. Granted, games like this happen to every team, but Brooklyn has to be disappointed by this result. Here are three takeaways from Wednesday’s loss at the Knicks:
Michael Porter Jr. Struggles Again
Porter revealed during Wednesday’s shootaround that he has been playing through a knee injury for the past two weeks or so, but the last two games have been a struggle for him when it comes to shooting the basketball. Including Wednesday’s loss at the Knicks, Porter is averaging 17.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game over his last two appearances, but he’s shooting just 37.8% from the field and 26.3% from three-point land.

Williams has caught his stride since the calendar turned to 2026 as he has been possibly at his best since he first came to the franchise prior to the 2024-25 campaign. Williams has played six games in January, he didn’t play in six games mostly due to illness and reconditioning, and in those six appearances, he’s averaging 12.0 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game while shooting 52.3% from the floor and 44.4% from deep.
Nets Have One Of The Worst Losses In Franchise History
In terms of margin of defeat, the Nets suffered the second-worst loss in franchise history, only behind their 126-67 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers last season. Last night against the Knicks, Brooklyn shot just 29.0% from the field and 28.0% from three-point land while allowing New York to shoot 57.0% and 50.0%, respectively. Not much can be said about a loss like this other than it seems to be a continuation of what has been a disappointing month for Brooklyn.
