Mohamed Diawara has played sporadically this season with the New York Knicks, but the rookie has impressed coach Mike Brown, both on and off the court.
Diawara is averaging 1.9 points and one rebound while shooting 40% from the field in 36 appearances with the Knicks. He has earned five spot starts for Brown, averaging 7.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists on 44.4% shooting from 3-point range.
The 51st overall pick was highly touted out of France as a player who can handle the ball, finish in transition and space the floor. He has showcased those abilities in a limited sample size, and a few other traits that have stood out to Brown.
He has played well. I’ve been pleasantly surprised. (He) has great size. He has got a really good instinct for a young guy, and part of that instinct is a feel, especially on the offensive end of the floor of how to move the basketball, which makes the game easier for everybody. He is working really hard on his shot and his decision-making when he gets in the paint. He is a pretty good rebounder and a pretty good defender for a young guy.
Diawara has even logged two appearances in the G League with the Westchester Knicks to log extended minutes, averaging 15.5 points, seven rebounds and 3.5 assists on 65% shooting from the field. He scored at least 15 points in each game.

The 20-year-old has brought a different dynamic to the court when called upon and will likely continue to see minutes in certain situations. His two-way potential has been a welcome addition to the team, and something the team will look to tap into.
The organization was ecstatic to add Diawara to the roster through the draft. The group will look to maximize his development in the NBA and G League throughout the rest of the season as he attempts to become a regular contributor.
