  • January 23, 2026

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – The Hornets’ game in Charlotte this weekend was rescheduled due to an impending ice storm.

NBA communications announced Thursday, Jan. 22, that the Hornets-Wizards tip-off was moved from 6 p.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 24.

A winter storm watch was issued for every county in the Charlotte region on Wednesday, Jan. 21 — nearly four days before storm impacts were expected to begin on Saturday, Jan. 24. WBTV meteorologists predict the Charlotte area to start seeing winter weather around 2 p.m.

Just hours after the region was placed under a winter storm watch, Gov. Josh Stein issued a state of emergency for North Carolina.

“A winter storm is approaching, and now is the time to prepare. Please get ready,” Stein said.

The briefing took place at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, and Stein provided the latest information on storm preparations.Emergency response crews activated

Emergency response crews have been activated ahead of the storm.

North Carolina Department of Transportation crews and contractors have begun pre-treating roads, bridges, and overpasses with brine.

Additionally, they’ve started restocking salt supplies and making sure equipment is ready to respond to the storm and its aftermath.
