Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. is in the midst of what could be his first season as an NBA All-Star and that level of play has brought him plenty of attention. While there are conflicting reports on whether Brooklyn could trade Porter away prior to February trade deadline, there seems to be an indication that the Nets aren’t desperate to cash in on his current value.

“I would say that for Brooklyn, I wouldn’t say that they’re shopping him. They’re listening, certainly. He’s been an All-Star caliber player,” HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto said of Porter during an appearance on The Putback with SNY’s Ian Begley. Begley asked Scotto whether Brooklyn is actively shopping Porter around the league or if they are just holding pat on the sharpshooter until the right offer presents itself.

“Michael Porter Jr. certainly could be a part of that [the Nets’ future], from what I’ve been told. Also, there’s no urgency to move him now,” Scotto continued. “He will be on an expiring contract going into next season, and as you know, expiring contracts, let alone with a guy who’s at All-Star production, are valuable around the league. For the Nets, I don’t see them moving Michael Porter Jr. unless they get the asking price that they have.”

Porter, 27, is having the best season of his eight-year career as he’s averaging 25.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 48.1% from the field and 39.6% from three-point range. Porter, who was recently not voted in as an All-Star starter, but still has the chance to make the team as a reserve, could warrant the price of two first-round picks, according to NBC Sports’ Dalton Johnson.

With the Nets slowly improving their record in terms of getting the best possible position for the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery, general manager Sean Marks and company will have a tough decision to make on Porter. If Brooklyn can acquire two first-round picks in exchange for Porter, that’s probably a deal that the Nets would do. However, Scotto and other insiders have noted that Brooklyn could see Porter as part of the future. Time will tell what happens.
